I decided to take this task from different perspective. My aim was to create 8 pages little book about myself. I thought I could say something about what is important about the books to me. What qualities the book brings to my life . I had the number of pages from 1 till 8 , therefore the  number of page represents the importance of illustrations to me. My way of thinking was to open and close this little book with two the most important things about the book to me. Therefore, the most important page is number 1 and number 8.

Visuals

Pages:

Individual illustrations and pages

 Page 1 - " Imagination "

Imaginations is the page number 1 that opens the book . this is the most important page for me as the book has the power  develop the imagination when we are kids. I use to love to escape from the normal, ordinary world into my imagination with the book that I was reading.

I created the illustration completely not real to me.  The dancing and running away characters appeared on this illustration.

Page 2 - " Illustration "

Page number 2 tell us a story about the power of illustration. The illustration may by about anything in the book, the number of illustration may be vary, however the quality of illustration is very important to me.

Page 3 - " Emotions "

Number 3 says about the emotions that the book may brings to our life. I love the book that can makes me cry , laugh and frighten me a bit .

Page 4 - " Font "

Number 4 is the page that I called the FONT with the WRITTEN WORD . Written word is very important as it may tell us many things about our culture and history of our language.

Page 5 -" Time with your parent "

Page 5 brings up the good memories to me about my childhood, when my dad uses to read me a book about dwarfs and some little girl.  I love this memory as It helped me to respect books more as the can bond the family.

Page 6 - " Information"

Page 7 - " Fun time "

Fun time is the page number 7 . This is the time when we spent with the book when we are kids . It helps us to be creative as well spent some time on our own.

Page 8 - " Kwnoledge "

The last 8 page is the most important after the 1 . The power of book is the power of knowledge that makes us more intelligent.

Project : The creative design process

Exercise : Working to a brief

Using IDENTITY as your theme, create several images, which explore aspects of your self.

Generating ideas

I would like to use only one image of myself however present them in different ways.  I would like to have a fun and play with that image.

Presentation

Image number 1

The first one presents me in the mane part of the composition however; the background has the biggest meaning as it represents the colours of the Polish flag.

Image number 2

The second image presents me with the fingerprint as a representation of the human identity.  I created a fingerprint for this illustration, as I did not want to use my own in the public place as the internet.

Image number 3

I think that this is my favourite of all.  The illustration number 3 says more about me as a person comparing with the previous two. I used calm colours for this work to expose more the words that describe Kasia Lovick.

Project: Printing and publishing part 2

Exercise : Sourcing books

I took five different books in hardback, which a few of them are stitched and some of them are glued. I definitely prefer the one that has been stitched as they look more professional and the pages adhere better.

I have been asked to do  a research about “ fanzines” . Lucky enough I can give a few examples from my life when I was very active member of fan clubs as a teenager. Well that was ages ago; however, I can remember my contribution towards the final look.  My first one was the school fan magazine that I was responsible for the graphic design . It contained the news, competitions  from my school . Sometimes I managed to get an autograph from the famous Polish person for this magazine.

Two magazines were about my favourite Polish musicians: Justyna Steczkowska and Mieczyslaw Szczesniak. Unfortunately, I do not have any of them in my archives

I have managed to do a research about fanzines on internet and now I can see how different they are from a design perspective. They have limited amount of colours and tones.  I may even say that they are black and white usually as that is the cheapest way of producing the illustration.  They treat different subjects as different people, who are trying to protest against different problems, produce them. Some of them are less serious then the other.

Project : Printing and publishing part 1

Exercise: Folding

I took an A4 sheet of paper and fold in half, to create an A5.  Then I repeated this exercise to create an A6 size paper, which gives me four leaves and eight pages. This photo documents this exercise.

The recto (front) of my mini book is on the page number 1.  The gutter (centre) has appeared between page number 4 and 5, while a verso (back) on the page number 8.

This time I used an A3 sheet of paper, which I folded to an A6 size.  I created sixteen pages.

Part 1-Begining

GLOBAL : Objective
Think about the influence of books globally, then write a sentence or two for each book explaining the rasons  behind your choice.

 1)

The Bible is the most influential book off all times and is very important for a few reasons.  It has a historic, social, literary, religion and spiritual meaning.

2)

Encyclopaedia as a book was the most important book in every country until discovering the internet and Google where we can find the meaning of nearly every term.

3)

The phone book used to be very important book that people used for personal and business purposes.  Nowadays they use an internet to find the contact number that they need.

Personal : Subjective

"Basn o krasnoludkach i sierotce Marysi " wrote by Maria Konopnicka is the earliest book that I can remember from my childhood.  I simply adore this book as it tells the story about the dwarfs and their friendship with people.  It combines two different words: the real and the imaginary one.  It has been written under Russian rule when the hard work was very important and this book propagates the ideas of hard work on the fields.

"Biblia w obrazkach dla najmlodszych” is another book that I remember from my childhood.  It has been introduced by my Nan therefore; it has massive meaning for me.  It brings all the good memories about my first meting with this very important book.

"Plastusiowy pamietnik” was an amazing short story about little figurine made of Plasticize that lived in the pencil box.  He had plenty of adventures with his friends like ruler, rubber or pencil.  Maria Kownacka wrote this book in 1931

"Krol Macius Pierwszy” is a wonderful book about little boy that became a king in young age after his dad death.  He had plenty of exciting adventures and many difficult decisions to make.  It teaches young people how to be brave and mature for their age.  Janusz Korczak wrote this book in 1922.

"Litery-nauka czytania" and "Mam 6 lat” were my first study books at school.

"O psie, ktory jezdzil koleja"was a required reading at school and tells the story about the dog that leaves with railwayman at the railway station.  This little dog had many exciting adventures however; he dies at the end of the story.  I remember this book for one particularly reason, as it was the first book that I cried at the end of it.

"Janko muzykant” is very sad and short story about little pure boy who doesn’t have money to buy a violin for himself.  One night he gets to the house where rich family was keeping a very expensive instrument.  He was punished by flogging in which results he died.  Henryk Sienkiewicz wrote this book in 1879.

"Ania z Zielonego Wzgorza" is the series of books about young girl with red hair that was raise by brother and sister Maryla and Mateusz Cuthbert.  It is very funny book about the girl that used to dream and imagine a lot.  I love this book as I could easily relate myself to the main character.  Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote it in 1908.
